April 2, First Thursday at Locus Wines

I am excited to announce that I have show coming up at Locus Wines in April. My installation Squared Seas will be there, along with other oceanic paintings. If you didn’t get to see Squared Seas when it was downtown, now is your chance! And Locus has lots of very lovely wines to sip while you are there. Locus opens at 3PM for the First Thursday festivities. I will be there from 5-7PM if you want to see me in person.

The collected paintings of the Squared Seas installation reflect the “now you see it, now you don’t” patchwork nature of life in a continuous, fluid environment. The paintings are square following the oceanographic convention of simplifying the ocean into squares and cubes to facilitate comparison, bringing order to chaos. Taken together, they inspire conversations about how oceans work and how scientists study them. Squared Seas invites dialogue regarding the possibility of truly understanding the nuance of nature, and whether it is possible to impose boundaries on interconnected natural systems.

I have a piece in the We the Artists show at The Confluence gallery in Twisp, Washington. This is the first time it has been shown, and my first time working with Confluence. If you are in the Methow Valley area, please stop by!

Since 2011, Gallery 110’s juried exhibition has showcased works by emerging and established artists chosen by a prominent juror with ties to the artistic community of the Pacific Northwest. This year’s show features 50 artworks selected by Stefano Catalani, Executive Director of the Museum of Northwest Art, from over 1,600 entries.

First Thursday is almost here. It’s this Thursday, Dec. 4. I’ll be in my studio (#206) at ‘57 Biscayne from 5-8PM, and I hope you’ll come by to say hi! I have art at a few other places around downtown so I included a map inspired by the social media team at Washington Department of Transportation. They make traffic hilarious. Hopefully, the only traffic Thursday will be excited people checking out the art in downtown Seattle. Use this map to take a tour of my art!
